KUALA LUMPUR — Perak DAP has unanimously backed the party remaining in the Unity Government until the end of the current administration, days before delegates are set to decide on the matter at the DAP National Congress.
In a statement today, DAP Perak said the Unity Government, led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, had implemented various reforms over the past three years while improving Malaysia’s image and standing internationally.
It said the party must continue to demonstrate its ability through its performance and achievements instead of disappointing voters.
“By remaining in the government, we can continue to implement the Pakatan Harapan manifesto, including institutional reforms, judicial independence, efforts to combat corruption, reducing the cost of living, reforming the national revenue system, as well as guaranteeing the rights and freedoms of Malaysia’s multiracial society,” it said in a statement shared on its Facebook page.
The state chapter said the reforms must be completed within the current administration’s term.
While acknowledging the challenges faced by DAP as part of the government, it said remaining in the administration gave the party the power and voice to influence decision-making.
“This enables us to drive reforms, fulfil promises and spearhead national development for the well-being of the people,” it said.
DAP Perak said its position was also driven by the need to preserve an inclusive and progressive multiracial political landscape and prevent extremist forces from gaining further ground.
It accused Perikatan Nasional and PAS of continuing to raise racial and religious issues that could create divisions among Malaysians.
“When Perikatan Nasional and PAS continue to play up racial issues and exploit religion to create divisions among the multiracial community and threaten national harmony, DAP’s presence will ensure that the country’s political direction continues to uphold unity and protect harmony from being disrupted,” it said.
The state chapter also warned against a return to political instability, citing Malaysia’s experience of having four prime ministers within seven years.
“Political instability has affected the economy and investor confidence. This bitter experience must not be repeated,” it said.
DAP Perak said the party must shoulder its responsibility by remaining in the Unity Government until the end of the current term to maintain stability, implement reforms, demonstrate its achievements and regain public confidence.
“This is the right and responsible path,” it said.
The position comes ahead of the DAP National Congress this Sunday, August 16, at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC), where more than 4,000 delegates are expected to vote on whether the party should remain in the Unity Government until the end of the current administration.
While the national position will ultimately be decided at the congress, the Perak chapter has already made clear its stand: DAP should remain in government and continue pushing its reform agenda. — August 12, 2026
