KUALA LUMPUR — PKR is optimistic that the DAP national congress will see a “positive outcome” as delegates deliberate on whether the party should continue its participation in the unity government.
PKR secretary-general Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh said she believed any decision by DAP would ultimately be guided by the interests of the people.
“We look forward to a positive decision from DAP and are confident that, as component partners in Pakatan Harapan, our objectives will always be centred on what is best for the people,” she was quoted saying by the New Straits Times on the sidelines of the congress in Melaka today.
PKR and DAP are allies in PH, but the subject of the DAP’s national congress tomorrow where its delegates are to vote on whether their party leaders should remain in their government positions, was not raised by any speaker during PKR’s congress today.
Fuziah said the ongoing 2026 PKR congress was focused on on reviving the party’s reform agenda.
DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke has said party delegates should vote on its position within the federal government, following electoral setbacks in the Sabah, Johor and Negeri Sembilan state elections.
The party is also facing criticism that it has lost its appetite for reform after holding government power, and that it has supposedly betrayed its core values by accepting Umno as a coalition government partner.
Loke has clarified that even if the delegates vote for party leaders to quit their government posts, all DAP MPs would still continue supporting Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s administration to maintain political stability. – August 15, 2026
