KUALA LUMPUR – The proposed development of a data centre in Kota Damansara will not proceed for now after the developer withdrew its application for planning permission submitted to the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ).
Sungai Buloh MP Datuk Seri R. Ramanan said he was informed of the latest development by MBPJ.
The Human Resources Minister said the decision demonstrated that the concerns raised by residents through the appropriate channels could lead to meaningful action.
“Since the beginning, my position has been clear. I am not against development or investment, but for large-scale developments that have the potential to affect the lives of local residents, the people must be given the opportunity to be heard.
“When the people raise valid concerns, it is my responsibility as their elected representative to bring their voices to the authorities. When it comes to the welfare of the people, we cannot compromise,” he told Bernama today.
On July 17, Ramanan had expressed his opposition to the proposed data centre project, calling for it to be halted as the process had not involved comprehensive engagement sessions, particularly with residents in the Kota Damansara area.
He said any large-scale development must be carried out transparently and responsibly, with the views of the local community taken into account while ensuring the potential impact on surrounding areas was thoroughly assessed.
Ramanan also stressed that any future development proposals or applications within the Sungai Buloh parliamentary constituency must involve engagement sessions with residents and relevant stakeholders before proceeding.
“Development is important and investment is also important, but these matters must move in tandem with the interests and well-being of the people.
“I will continue to monitor the developments on this matter and ensure that the voices and interests of the people of Kota Damansara continue to be defended,” he said. – August 20, 2026
