KUALA LUMPUR – The Kenduri Rakyat Madani programme is among the key initiatives held during National Month to foster patriotism and strengthen unity at the grassroots level, said Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil.

He said the programme, organised by the Information Department (JaPen) in collaboration with various agencies, gave greater meaning to the values of independence.

“There is little meaning in being independent if we are not healthy citizens, if we are not free from drugs, if we do not stand against and fight corruption, or if we do not benefit from the various programmes provided.

“So, we hope programmes like this will foster patriotism and a sense of national pride among the people. It also helps strengthen ties within the community,” he told reporters when met at the programme here today.

Earlier in his speech, Fahmi said the true meaning of independence lay in the ability to create a harmonious environment and community, regardless of background or race.

“More importantly, what gives independence greater meaning is creating a Madani environment and community. This means building strong bonds and close friendships that transcend skin colour, religious beliefs and backgrounds,” he said.

The Kenduri Rakyat Madani programme also featured various activities, including Rahmah Sales by the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN), health screening services, as well as information exhibitions by the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) and Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL). – August 22, 2026
