KUALA LUMPUR — Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has congratulated Umno Youth on its 77th anniversary, urging the movement to continue evolving and maintain its relevance among the younger generation.

In a Facebook post today, the Deputy Prime Minister said changing times had brought new challenges for Umno Youth, including rapid technological advancements, shifting perspectives and increasingly diverse voices among young people.

He said while courage remained important, it needed to be complemented by wisdom, knowledge and the ability to translate ideas into actions that reflected the realities of the present day.

“The major task of Umno Youth today is to ensure that Umno remains relevant and has a place in the hearts of the new generation. To achieve this, we must have the courage to open the doors of this ‘House of the Nation’ wider… listen to their views, provide space for new talent and build confidence that within Umno, young people are not merely followers but the inheritors of the struggle,” he said.

Ahmad Zahid said his experience with Umno Youth had taught him the importance of understanding the aspirations of grassroots members and the true meaning of service within the movement.

He said being part of Umno Youth was not simply about standing at the forefront, but also about being prepared to take on responsibilities when the party needed fresh ideas, commitment and courage.

He also expressed his appreciation to Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh, the movement’s leadership team and members at all levels for their continued efforts in strengthening the party’s cause.

“Continue to engage with young people in their language, understand their concerns and bring their aspirations into the party’s struggle,” he said.

Ahmad Zahid said the 77-year anniversary was more than just a milestone, describing it as a reflection of the movement’s journey, including its experiences, challenges and lessons that would guide its future direction.

He hoped Umno Youth would continue to serve as a platform for developing leaders with courage grounded in reason, idealism balanced with reality and a willingness to shoulder the responsibilities of the future. – August 26, 2026
