KUALA LUMPUR — DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke has maintained his decision to resign as Transport Minister, saying he will submit his resignation letter upon returning from China.
The Seremban MP said his decision was final and that he would hand the letter to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim when he is back in Malaysia, Bernama reported.
“The decision has been made. I will submit the resignation letter to the Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim) when I return home,” he told reporters briefly after arriving in Hangzhou, China, today.
Loke is currently accompanying Anwar on a three-day working visit to Shanghai and Hangzhou at the invitation of the Chinese government.
He offered to step down following a DAP Central Executive Committee (CEC) meeting on Saturday, held in response to the conditional pardon granted to former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
Loke said other DAP ministers and deputy ministers would continue serving in the Unity Government.
Speaking to Malaysian media while travelling from Shanghai to Hangzhou via high-speed train, Anwar said he would not make a hasty decision on Loke’s resignation offer, saying he wanted to first hear the DAP leader’s explanation.
The Prime Minister also said DAP should not succumb to calls from parties that he described as having political interests to withdraw from the government. – September 23, 2026
