KUALA LUMPUR – Pakatan Harapan (PH) Melaka has completed internal seat allocation negotiations among its state component parties, clearing a key hurdle ahead of the upcoming 16th Melaka State Election (PRN).
Addressing the media after the coalition’s Ceramah Perdana in Bukit Baru on Saturday night, PH Melaka chairman Adly Zahari confirmed that state-level discussions have concluded, though the final pact hinges on endorsement from federal leadership.
“In any case, we will wait until next week. Election director (Amirudin) is already aware of the decision. We will take it to the coalition’s highest level for finalisation,” Adly told reporters.
“So far, the seat allocation within PH remains as agreed at the state level, such as Amanah being allocated eight seats,” he added, noting that the broader state election strategy will be unveiled once the top leadership formally approves the seats.
The final arrangement will now move to crucial discussions between the PH Presidential Council, the state PH leadership, and PH election director Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari. The political talk was attended by heavyweights including Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) president Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu and Melaka PKR State Leadership Council acting chairman Adam Adli Abdul Halim.
The seat settlement comes on the heels of the sudden dissolution of the 28-seat Melaka State Legislative Assembly on Sept 23, 2026.
Under constitutional provisions, the Election Commission (EC) must hold a state election within 60 days of dissolution, setting the stage for an intense campaign likely to conclude by late October or early November.
The upcoming contest serves as a critical litmus test following the last state poll in November 2021, where Barisan Nasional (BN) swept a two-thirds majority with 21 seats, while PH managed only 5 (DAP winning 4 and Amanah 1, with PKR wiped out).
With state-level seat distribution now hammered out internally—including Amanah securing eight seats—PH aims to regain lost ground in a shifting political landscape where major national and state coalitions are maneuvering for strategic dominance ahead of the next general election. – September 27, 2026
