KUALA LUMPUR — Television and radio stations are to adjust and moderate their programming as a mark of respect following the passing of Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali, who died today at the age of 100.
Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil, who said this, also extended his condolences to the family of the wife of former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, describing her passing as a sad moment for the country.
Speaking after officiating the launch of LESTARI: Sustainability Framework & Roadmap 2030 today, Fahmi said Tun Dr Siti Hasmah had made significant contributions to the nation and was widely regarded as a figure who remained close to the people.
“On behalf of the Government, I extend my condolences to the family of Allahyarhamah Tun Dr Siti Hasmah, especially to Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and his family.
“This is a deeply saddening moment. The late Tun Dr Siti Hasmah contributed greatly to the country and was often seen as someone close to the people,” he said in his opening speech.
Tun Dr Siti Hasmah died at the National Heart Institute (IJN) this morning.
Her death was confirmed by her son, Tan Sri Mokhzani Mahathir.
Dr Siti Hasmah is to be accorded a state funeral and will be laid to rest at Pusara Negara (National Cemetery) in Precinct 20, Putrajaya. – September 28, 2026
