KUALA LUMPUR – Lawyers representing two policemen allegedly confronted and roughed up by Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) Director-General Datuk Seri Shuhaily Mohd Zain have strongly rejected claims that their clients are bankrolled by criminal syndicates.
In a statement reported by Utusan Malaysia, law firm Messrs Kamal Hisham & Associates warned that its clients reserve the full right to take legal action against individuals spreading the allegations, noting that the firm itself had been unfairly dragged into the claims.
“We respect the right to freedom of speech, which is enshrined under Article 10(1)(a) of the Federal Constitution. However, that freedom is not absolute,” the firm said.
“Whoever makes these false claims would be committing an offence under Section 505 of the Penal Code (for criminal defamation) and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act (for the improper use of network facilities).”
The controversy surfaced after viral CCTV footage showed Shuhaily in a physical confrontation with an individual at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1. AKPS subsequently confirmed the authenticity of the video, stating the incident took place while Shuhaily was inspecting preparations ahead of the Bahrain Grand Prix.
Bukit Aman’s Criminal Investigation Department is currently investigating the case under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt.
Messrs Kamal Hisham & Associates disclosed that the two police officers lodged supplementary police reports on Oct 10 to submit additional evidence to investigators.
The firm indicated that the scope of the investigation could broaden beyond simple hurt, potentially involving the use of criminal force to deter a public servant from discharge of duty, criminal force with intent to dishonour, and criminal intimidation.
“We leave it to the police to investigate and the Attorney-General’s Chambers to evaluate the case.” – October 12, 2026
