KUALA LUMPUR – Professional badminton player Lee Zii Jia’s legal bid to convene an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) of LZJ Management Sdn Bhd will return to the Kuala Lumpur High Court on November 25.

His lawyer, Ahmad Zayd Ahmad Zuber of Messrs Faisal & Zayd, told Scoop when contacted that the application was primarily intended to obtain the court’s assistance in convening the company meeting, rather than to pursue allegations against the parties involved.

“My client is essentially seeking an application to convene an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) of the company.

“There are no allegations between the parties involved. We are simply seeking the court’s assistance to convene the EGM in accordance with the terms requested,” he said.

“The next hearing of the application is scheduled for November 25,” Ahmad Zayd added.

He declined to disclose the specific reasons behind Zii Jia’s application to convene the EGM.

The application, filed on July 2, also seeks an interim injunction to prevent Zii Jia’s father, Lee Chee Hin, and sister, Lee Zii Yii, from making certain financial and management decisions concerning the company while the legal proceedings are ongoing, as previously reported by Scoop on Oct 12.

In his originating summons, Zii Jia is seeking an order authorising him to convene the EGM after an earlier attempt to hold the meeting on December 22 last year failed to proceed because the required quorum was not achieved.

According to his supporting affidavit, Chee Hin, Zii Yii and his younger brother, Lee Tao, who are the second, third and fourth respondents respectively, did not attend the meeting despite having been given notice.

Their absence meant the meeting could not proceed because the quorum required under the Companies Act 2016 was not met.

Zii Jia’s affidavit also states that he had attempted to contact his family members privately before exploring other avenues, including seeking assistance from the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM).

The application states that LZJ Management is facing a management and administrative deadlock, with Zii Jia arguing that it is impractical or potentially impossible to convene a meeting through the usual procedures under the Companies Act 2016.

Apart from seeking authority to call the EGM and issue the necessary notices, Zii Jia wants an independent chairperson appointed to oversee the meeting.

He is also seeking orders to ensure that resolutions passed through voting based on shareholding can be implemented lawfully, including resolutions concerning the removal of existing directors, appointment of new directors and appointment of a new company secretary.

LZJ Management, Chee Hin, Zii Yii and Tao are named as respondents in the proceedings.

Under the application for an interim injunction, Zii Jia is seeking to prevent Chee Hin and Zii Yii from approving or paying themselves directors’ fees, allowances, bonuses and other financial benefits beyond their respective monthly salaries.

He is also seeking restrictions on decisions involving the appointment or removal of directors, appointment of a company secretary, disposal of material assets, issuance of new shares and changes to the company’s shareholding structure without the court’s permission.

According to the court documents, Zii Jia claims to own a 90 per cent stake in LZJ Management, while Zii Yii holds nine per cent and Tao owns the remaining one per cent.

The respondents are contesting the application. In affidavits filed in reply on August 6, Chee Hin disputed the need for court intervention, maintaining that the company had continued to manage matters relating to his son’s professional badminton career.

A joint affidavit filed on behalf of Zii Yii and Tao also disputed the applicant’s claims and challenged the relief sought.

The court has yet to determine the application. – October 13, 2026
