PN to challenge RoS decision, questions why it acted ahead of court ruling: Takiyuddin

PN would take action against all parties that showed contempt for and disregarded the court process

KUALA LUMPUR – Perikatan Nasional (PN) will challenge the validity of the Registrar of Societies Malaysia’s (RoS) revocation order and seek a stay of its implementation and all its effects pending a court ruling on Thursday.

PN secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hussein also questioned RoS’s decision to revoke PN’s registration just two days before the Kuala Lumpur High Court was due to hear the coalition’s application to stay the Registrar’s earlier action of issuing a notice of non-compliance and suspending all its activities.

He said that on Oct 6, the Registrar had stated that the issues raised by PN would be addressed in court.

On Oct 13, the court granted leave for a judicial review and scheduled the hearing of the stay application for Oct 22, after the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) stressed the need for an inter partes hearing.

“PN’s written request on Oct 14 for no further action to be taken pending the hearing went unanswered, while the AGC’s submissions on Oct 19 stated that the revocation process was ‘still ongoing’, without informing us that the revocation would be carried out the following day.

“The question is why the registration was revoked before the deadline expired. PN believes the timing and sequence of these actions raise serious questions about possible mala fide intentions and political motives.

“The Registrar’s notice was issued on Sept 22, when the dissolution of the Melaka State Legislative Assembly was announced, followed by the suspension the next day.

“The grounds relating to the PN Supreme Council meeting on July 16, 2026, also contradict the Registrar’s written position on that date that the department ‘had no authority to intervene’, while PN’s detailed response was rejected as ‘unsatisfactory’ without substantive reasons.

“The registration was revoked 11 days before nomination day for the Melaka state election, scheduled for Oct 31. We were given 30 days, meaning the deadline expires tomorrow. Yet our registration was revoked today, before the 30-day period had expired. We want the government to explain this,” he said in a statement today.

The Melaka state election is scheduled for Nov 14, with nomination day set for Oct 31.

Earlier, RoS revoked the registration of PN after finding that the coalition’s explanation had failed to refute the grounds for revocation outlined in an earlier notice.

In a statement today, RoS said the decision was made by the Registrar of Societies after reviewing all documents and explanations submitted by PN on Oct 12.

Takiyuddin said PN condemned the revocation as an attempt to pre-empt the court’s consideration of the matter and weaken a political opponent ahead of the Melaka election.

He added that PN would take action against all parties that showed contempt for and disregarded the court process.

He also urged PN component parties to remain united in defending their rights and the people’s mandate through legal channels and the democratic process.

All members and supporters were also urged to remain calm, comply with the law and allow the court process to take its course, while the public assesses what he alleged was the government’s use of administrative powers against political opponents ahead of the election. – October 20, 2026
