KUALA LUMPUR – Former Attorney General Tan Sri Idrus Harun has been appointed to the Judicial Appointments Commission (JAC) alongside three top legal figures, taking seats on the key bench-vetting body effective today.

The high-powered roster, appointed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for a two-year tenure running through Oct 31, 2028, places seasoned judicial and legal veterans directly into the statutory body responsible for evaluating and recommending the nation’s superior court judges.

Joining Idrus on the commission are former Federal Court Judge Tan Sri Zainun Ali; Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) law academic Prof Dr Hartini Saripan, who secures a second term; and former Sabah State Attorney General Datuk Mariati Robert.

The Office of the Secretary of the Judicial Appointments Commission confirmed the lineup in a statement today, noting that the appointments were made in accordance with subsection 5(1)(f) of the Judicial Appointments Commission Act 2009 [Act 695].

“These appointments are for a two-year term, effective from Nov 1, 2026, to Oct 31, 2028,” the statement read.

The commission also formally recorded its appreciation and gratitude to outgoing member Datuk Seri Talat Mahmood Abdul Rashid for his service and contributions during his tenure. – November 1, 2026
