KUALA LUMPUR — VCI Global Limited will launch QuantGold Data, billed as Malaysia’s first sovereign-grade encryption platform, at the Asean AI Summit Malaysia 2025 (AAISM’25), aiming to combat AI-powered cyberattacks and bolster Asean’s data autonomy.
The announcement will be made by Jane Teh, VCI Global’s Chief AI Security Officer, during her keynote address entitled Powering Sovereign AI Through Secure Encryption. The summit will be officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Teh, an internationally recognised cybersecurity expert with over two decades of experience, said the platform represented “the gold standard” for hardware-level encryption, secure data mobility and data monetisation.
“The digital economy equals the data economy… sovereignty begins with secure control over your storage and computer. We must stop being data exporters and start building a self-sovereign nationwide infrastructure that encrypts, computes, and monetises our owned datasets securely,” she said in a statement today.
QuantGold’s proprietary encryption chip (ISO 15408, EAL 4+) will underpin a National AI Data Centre framework and an encrypted hardware ecosystem. The system is designed to enable nations to operate sovereign AI clouds, reduce reliance on foreign hyperscalers, and monetise encrypted data without exposing raw content.
With more than 129 registered patents, QuantGold aims to position Malaysia and Asean at the forefront of the data economy while addressing what VCI Global calls “digital colonialism”, surveillance threats, and rising cybercrime — estimated to have caused US$9.5 trillion (RM40.28 trillion) in global damages in 2024, according to Bloomberg.
The platform targets three key areas: eliminating dependence on foreign tech giants for AI computing and storage; reducing cyberattack risks through air-gapped, military-grade encryption; and enabling governments and organisations to profit from encrypted datasets without compromising sensitive information.
VCI Global said the launch marked a pivotal moment for the region’s AI and cybersecurity landscape, advancing its mission to secure trusted data sovereignty for governments, enterprises and citizens across Southeast Asia. — August 11, 2025
