KUALA LUMPUR — Jaya Grocer, Malaysia’s leading home-grown grocery retailer, today announced an investment of over RM100 million into a new automated warehouse that will introduce smarter technology and create higher-skilled roles.

Strategically located in Selangor, this initiative goes beyond building a state-of-the-art automated warehouse.

It will integrate automated systems and smart technology to improve efficiency, employ data tools to strengthen decision-making, and provide new opportunities for Malaysians to take on more skilled, technology-driven roles.

The investment marks the company’s largest step into supply chain automation and is the first of its kind in Malaysia’s grocery retail sector.

The new facility will serve as a central distribution hub, ensuring that stores are replenished faster and more efficiently.

This model offers a more reliable and consistent supply of fresh products for customers, while also creating greater efficiencies for the business.

Located in the heart of Petaling Jaya and connected to major highways, the warehouse strengthens Jaya Grocer’s end-to-end distribution network while enabling closer integration with local suppliers.

By uniting scale, automation, and a strategic location, the new warehouse will not only improve efficiencies across Jaya Grocer’s supermarket operations but also strengthen GrabMart’s delivery network. This investment supports the company’s ambition to expand its logistics capabilities and reinforces its role in driving Malaysia’s digital economy.

Spanning approximately 250,000 square feet with a ceiling height of 30 meters, the facility is designed to accommodate large-scale automated high-density storage and movement of goods, increasing storage capacity by up to five times compared to the current warehouse.

Its advanced systems, including Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems (ASRS), robotic shuttles, conveyors, and sortation systems, will automate more than 80% of storage operations.

This level of automation not only improves accuracy and reduces turnaround times but also reduces reliance on foreign labor. In turn, it creates a pathway for Malaysians to transition into higher-skilled, technology-driven roles.

“Jaya Grocer’s investment in this new automated warehouse in Petaling Jaya reflects the thriving economic landscape and supportive business environment we are building in Selangor,” said Menteri Besar of Selangor, Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.

He added, “It aligns with our efforts to strengthen the state’s economy, foster job creation, and improve the wellbeing of our people through the use of technology. We believe this facility will not only enhance the grocery sector’s supply chain but also create skilled roles, demonstrating how innovation can directly benefit our communities.”

Meanwhile, Jaya Grocer CEO Daniel Teng said that the opening of this new facility is not just about scaling operations but also about building stronger connections with local suppliers, creating quality jobs for the community, and ensuring Malaysians can continue to access fresh, quality products every day.
“It underscores how the future of retail lies in strengthening supply chains and improving efficiency through innovation,” he added.

Daniel explained that the decision to invest in a new warehouse and advanced logistics infrastructure comes as Jaya Grocer’s current facility has reached its full capacity.

“This crucial expansion will help meet surging customer demand, streamline operational workflows, and introduce future-ready warehouse technology to local communities,” he said.

“It also supports the government’s tech upskilling goals, while reflecting Jaya Grocer’s strategy to place technology at the core of its long-term growth and people development,” Daniel concluded. – September 17, 2025
