KUALA LUMPUR – The controversy of chanting the “takbir” should not cloud the main agenda of tonight’s Malaysia Stands with Palestine Rally at Axiata Arena Stadium, said religious affairs minister Datuk Mohd Na’im Mokhtar.
He said the main intention of tonight’s demonstration is to showcase solidarity toward the Palestinians who endure hardship and suffering because of the recent Palestine-Israel conflict.
“I really hope that the other small things don’t cloud (the real issue) because this matter has an impact. We should not focus on small things when we need to unite for bigger things.
“My hope is that all of us Muslims, despite our differences in politics, should not look at the small things until we forget the bigger things,” he told the media after his speech at the discourse with media practitioners: Palestine Solidarity at TV-Alhijrah Studio here, today.
Besides, he said there is no issue with non-Muslims on the chanting of “takbir” at tonight’s solidarity gathering if there is no malicious intent as it is to show support for the cause.
He said for a complete understanding on the usage of takbir, the people can refer to their respective mufti.
Meanwhile, at the discourse, Na’im said the media’s role in reporting war and conflict to the public is crucial, as it provides accurate, timely information to the public with responsible coverage.
He added that the role is critical and it serves as an important information source for the public, holds parties accountable, and in raising awareness, understanding, and sheds light on human rights abuses, war crimes, and violations of international law.
“Today’s discourse calls for nothing else but fair and just reporting in Gaza and Palestine in an effort to promote understanding of the issues at hand,” he added. – October 24, 2023
