KUALA LUMPUR – The Kemamam parliament by-election is set for a straight shoot-out between PAS and Barisan Nasional (BN) after the nomination period closed at 10am today.
PAS is set to field Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, while former Defence Forces chief General (Rtd) Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor will carry the torch for BN for the by-election.
The announcement was made by the Election Commission’s (EC) returning officer, Ahmad Farhan Abdul Wahab.
Early voting has been set for November 28, while December 2 has been set for polling.
A total of 141,790 voters are eligible to vote, including 387 police personnel, nine military personnel, and 12 overseas voters.
The Kemaman parliamentary by-election was held after the Terengganu Election Court on September 26 annulled the victory of PAS candidate Che Alias Hamid in the 15th general election.
Che Alias won with a majority of 27,179 votes, defeating Terengganu Umno chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Said, who got 38,535 votes, Pakatan Harapan candidate Hasuni Sudin (8,340), and Pejuang candidate Rosli Ab Ghani (506). – November 18, 2023
