KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced the much anticipated cabinet reshuffle today, naming five new ministers with one dropped from his portfolio. Five new deputies were also named, with two dropped.
Newly minted senator Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan is the new finance minister II while Lim Hui Ying is now deputy finance minister.
However, Anwar will continue to helm the finance portfolio. Lim was previously deputy education minister.
As for Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, he is given a new portfolio known as energy transition and public utilities (peralihan tenaga dan daya guna awam), and he will also oversee Sabah and Sarawak affairs, which was previously under the Prime Minister’s Department.
Fadillah’s deputy in the energy portfolio is Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir, who was deputy local government development minister.
The other deputy prime minister, Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, retains his rural and regional development portfolio with his existing deputy, Datuk Rubiah Wang.
Meanwhile, Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad’s natural resources, environment and climate change portfolio is now the Natural Resources and Sustainability Ministry. He will continue to helm this with deputy Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii.
As for Fahmi Fadzil, he is now communications minister, while Gobind Singh Deo is digital minister.
Other new ministers include Datuk Seri Dzulkefly Ahmad (health), Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani (plantations and commodities) and Steven Sim, who is taking over the Human Resources Ministry from V. Sivakumar.
Fellow Umno member Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin will be taking over the defence portfolio, while Adly Zahari remains as deputy.
Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali, who was acting minister for Domestic Trade and Cost of Living, will now helm the portfolio.
Former health minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa has been moved to the Prime Minister’s Department overseeing federal territories.
Former foreign minister Datuk Seri Zambry Abdul Kadir is now higher education minister.
Meanwhile, deputy ministers Ramkarpal Singh (Law and Institutional Reform) and Datuk Siti Aminah Aching (Plantation and Commodities) have been dropped from the cabinet lineup.
The new lineup sees a total 31 ministers from 28 previously, and 29 deputies, two more than previously.
In total, there are now 60 ministers and deputies, 10 less than the previous administration.
