Cabinet reshuffle: Loke to address changes during press conference later today

Changes saw some DAP representatives elevated, while others like Sivakumar and Ramkarpal Singh were dropped

KUALA LUMPUR – DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke is scheduled to hold a special press conference this evening, in the wake of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s newly reshuffled cabinet

According to an invite sent out to the press last night, Loke, who retained his position as transport minister, is set to address the media at 5pm today.

The event will be held at DAP headquarters in Jalan Pudu here.

Loke is expected to field queries regarding changes made to the cabinet, including how some party representatives gained ministerial roles – with Steven Sim taking over the Human Resources Ministry, while Gobind Singh Deo is now Digital Minister.

Sim replaces DAP deputy secretary-general V. Sivakumar, who was embroiled in controversy over scandals involving the ministry’s foreign worker recruitment system, as well as the management and finances of the Human Resources Development Corporation (HRD Corp).

Meanwhile, DAP vice-chairman M. Kulasegaran is deputy minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform), while party central executive committee member Lim Hui Ying is deputy finance minister. She was previously deputy education minister.

Kulasegaran takes over from fellow DAP man Ramkarpal Singh, who was dropped altogether.

Another issue that could be brought up is Selangor DAP vice-chairman and Sekinchan assemblyman Ng Suee Lim’s acceptance of a ‘Datuk’ title in conjunction with state ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah’s 78th birthday yesterday.

DAP’s party policy prohibits elected representatives from accepting any titles prior to their retirement from elected office to ensure that members focus on serving the people. – December 12, 2023
