This month, maybe even this week: govt topple plot long in the works, says Sanusi

Langkah Dubai just a facade, actual plan hatched in KL, claims Kedah MB

KUALA LUMPUR – Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor is confident that the unity government will collapse; however, he has declined to disclose when it is expected to occur.

He said the move to overthrow the unity government was already in motion, long before the alleged “Langkah Dubai,” which was revealed recently.

“However, to the best of my knowledge, there are certain things that can’t be disclosed, and I have no intention of doing so,” he said.

“Some people say it is not ‘Langkah Dubai’ but ‘Langkah Chow Kit’ because it was discussed in Kuala Lumpur. I think Dubai was just a facade because ‘they’ (opposition lawmakers, including some MPs linked to the government) wanted to go there.

“It’s a democratic thing, and it’s not impossible (to topple the government), and I see that it will happen, possibly this month, maybe even this week,” he told reporters after chairing the weekly exco meeting in Alor Setar today.

Last Saturday, Community Communications Department deputy director (community communications) Datuk Ismail Yusop claimed that opposition MPs, as well as some government lawmakers, were orchestrating a plot to bring down the unity government.

He claimed that this was following a visit to Dubai by the MPs, stating that these “agents” were actively trying to convince people that by early 2024, the Madani government would completely collapse with a specified date and deadline.

Previously, messages about a closed-door meeting involving Perikatan Nasional MPs and two Barisan Nasional MPs in Dubai went viral on social media.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim paid no mind to attempts by certain quarters to topple the current administration through Langkah Dubai.

Describing the move as feeble, Anwar said it would be better for the government to carry out its duty to the people.

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said that Putrajaya knew about Langkah Dubai as soon as certain individuals got off their flights in the United Arab Emirates.

He said: “Whichever ‘langkah’ (move) it was, they have to remember that the anti-hopping laws are in place. Such decisions will require an en bloc decision from the respective parties.”

Zahid, however, did not implicate anyone in the allegation.

In responding to Zahid, Sanusi said the rural and regional development minister’s statement would not last for long.

“Even he won’t last long (in the government). We (the opposition) are always trying (to overthrow the government), the other side will try to survive, just like playing football, we also want to score a goal,” he said. – January 3, 2024
