KUALA LUMPUR – Police have detained two policemen on allegations of sexual assault and extortion involving a local male and a foreign female, both private college students.

Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said that a criminal investigation team from the Ampang district police headquarters arrested the two suspects yesterday.

The two, whom Hussien described as uniformed enforcement officers, have been remanded for seven days, while the students each lodged separate reports.

“On January 9, at around 10.09pm, when the complainant and her male friend were at Bukit Ampang, they were apprehended by the two male suspects in full uniform, who took them to a secluded location separately.

“One of the suspects then raped the female complainant while the male complainant was brought to a bank to settle payments demanded by the suspects for a traffic offense,” Hussein said in a statement.

Two investigation papers have been opened, one under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape and the other under Section 395/397 of the same legislation for gang robbery and armed robbery.

Those found guilty under Section 376 could face imprisonment for up to 20 years and whipping, while for offences under Section 395/397, the maximum penalty is also a 20-year jail term with the possibility of a fine or caning.

Hussein also said that investigations are currently ongoing and urged the public to come forward with any information on the incident.

“Police will not compromise with any officer or personnel who is involved in criminal cases or wrongdoings. The investigations will be conducted transparently,” Hussein assured. – January 11, 2024
