SANDAKAN – A woman believed to be the mastermind behind the People’s Housing Programme (PPR) scheme syndicate in Sandakan was arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) last night.

The suspect, who is in her 40s, was accused of leading a syndicate that duped locals of RM10,000 for each PPR application.

The woman’s arrest was following the detention of two men – a father and his son – yesterday in a residential unit here.

A source in Sabah MACC said the duo were believed to be involved in the same syndicate.

The source said suspects had allegedly received tens of thousands of ringgit from the syndicate that started last year.

Meanwhile, Sabah MACC director Datuk S. Karunanithy confirmed the arrests of the three suspects, and that the case is investigated under Section 16 (a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009 for soliciting or accepting gratification.

He called on the victims of the scam to come forward and assist MACC in its investigation. – February 3, 2024
