Steamroller operator dies in freak accident in Kampung Cheras Baru

The victim had to extracted by fire and rescue personnel from a 25m ravine

KUALA LUMPUR – A 41-year-old man died today after a steamroller fell into a ravine at Kampung Cheras Baru.

According to the Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department’s operations centre, the local Indian man, who is believed to be the steamroller operator, was confirmed dead by Health Ministry personnel.

Senior operations commander Khairul Azmi Jaafar said that fire and rescue personnel first had to extract the victim from the about 25m ravine that the steamroller had plunged into.

Authorities had received an emergency call at 3.07pm before dispatching an FRT truck as well as 10 personnel from the Cheras and Bandar Tun Razak fire and rescue stations to the incident at Jalan 13, Lot 11, Kampung Cheras Baru.

Based on images of the incident shared by the Fire and Rescue Department, the tragedy occurred in a residential area, with the steamroller ending up upside down beside a housing unit. – March 2, 2024
