SHAH ALAM – Lawyers representing KK Supermart & Superstore Sdn Bhd have appealed to the public to stop releasing statements about today’s case of seven people being charged over the sales of socks with the word “Allah” printed on them.
Defence lawyer Datuk David Gurupatham said any statement might possibly prejudice the parties to a fair trial.
“As the matter has already been brought to court, we hope the relevant parties and public stop making any statements (regarding the matter).
“(Please) give the court some room to uphold justice,” he said during a press conference at the court complex here today.
Datuk Rajpal Singh, who is also part of the defence team, said it is important for the public to stop making statements on the matter.
“Let the court decide…police have done their job and the prosecution has decided to prosecute under Section 298 of the Penal Code.
“Everybody should let the court carry out its process.”
Earlier, seven individuals, including KK Supermart & Superstore Sdn Bhd and supplier Xin Jian Chang Sdn Bhd were charged in the sessions court here today.
Apart from the two companies, KK Supermart founder and executive director Datuk Chai Kee Kan, 57, and his wife who is also the company’s director Datin Seri Loh Siew Mui, 53, were charged.
Also charged today are Xin Jian Chang directors Soh Chin Huat, 61, his wife, Goh Li Huay, and their daughter Soh Hui San, 36.
All five individuals pleaded not guilty before judge Muhammad Anas Mahadzir.
According to the charges, Chai and Loh were accused of intentionally hurting the religious sentiments of Muslims by displaying socks with the word “Allah” on the sales display rack at their branch in Jalan PJS 11/7, Bandar Sunway, on March 13 around 6.30am.
Meanwhile, Chin Huat, Hui San, and Goh were charged with abetment at the same time, place, and date. – March 26, 2024
