KOTA KINABALU – Umno Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh has been called in by the authorities for the second time to the Kota Kinabalu police headquarters at about 2pm.

This was after he was detained between 10.40am and 12.40pm today.

Soon after he was released for the second time, Akmal said he was asked to answer some additional questions.

Akmal then left for Beaufort, about a two-hour drive from here for an iftar programme organised by Sabah Umno Youth.

He is scheduled to return to Kuala Lumpur via a noon flight tomorrow.

In a statement, he said that he was initially asked to give his statement at the Dang Wangi police headquarters tomorrow, to which he agreed.

However, he was detained at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport and brought to the Kota Kinabalu police headquarters for questioning.

“My first statement was taken over the course of two hours between 10.40am and 12.40pm before I was allowed to leave.

“However, after I talked to reporters, my detention was extended and I was called in again for another two hours.

Akmal then thanked the officers involved and said he gave full cooperation to the investigation.

“I would also like to thank several party leaders who have contacted me and helped me, and a million thanks to Malaysians who have been praying for me.

He added that he was questioned under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act and Communications and Multimedia Act.

“Whatever difficulties or challenges thrown at me, it has not broken my spirit to keep on fighting and state the truth for the sake of my race and religion.

“If this is what I have to pay to defend them, I accept it wholeheartedly.

“Keep boycotting. No fear, no surrender!” he added. – April 5, 2024
