Private sector should follow govt’s lead, increase employees’ salaries: Anwar

PUTRAJAYA – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has urged private sector organisations to follow the government’s lead in increasing civil servant salaries, as announced today.

Anwar said these companies have doubled their profits due to the productivity and sacrifice of their employees.

“And how can they achieve these profits? Through their employees’ productivity.

“Despite the announcement today focusing on the civil servant salary increase, I want to warn the private sector to take note. I’m giving them time (for them to consider revising their wage policy for their workers).

“The private sector companies have been generating substantial profits. There’s no harm in rewarding their employees with bonuses as a token of appreciation for their hard work,” he stated.

Earlier, Anwar announced that the government will revise the Public Service Remuneration System, where civil servant salaries will be increased by more than 13%.

He said that this would mark the highest increase yet. Until now, the highest percentage increase in the past 12 years was 13%. – May 1, 2024
