KUALA LUMPUR — A total of 305 people were rescued from the gas pipeline fire in Putra Heights this morning.

Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said they were placed at different temporary relief centres and medical facilities.

The Health Ministry, meanwhile, said that 41 people had been discharged from hospitals after receiving treatment for injuries, some of them second and third degree burns.

Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad also confirmed that there were no deaths, Bernama reports.

The Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) said that as of 3.40pm today, 190 houses, 148 cars and 11 motorcycles were damaged due to flames. Intense heat that was felt in a wide radius of the fire also melted cars and other property.

Besides houses in Putra Heights, homes in Kg Tengah, Kg Kenangan and Kampung Sungai Baru – located around 200 metres from the fire – suffered bad damage from the intense heat.

Amirudin this afternoon said two residential areas situated within a radius of 290 metres are closed and categorised as restricted zones

JBPM received a call about the fire at 8.23 am today and later confirmed the blaze was caused by a leak in an underground gas pipeline at Jalan Putra Harmoni in Putra Heights, Subang Jaya.

JBPM director-general Datuk Nor Hisham Mohammad said the fire this morning was estimated to have reached a height of 30 meters,  with temperatures reaching 1,000 degrees Celsius.

The fire was fully extinguished at 3.45 pm. – April 1, 2025
