After 39 years, BN keeps Ayer Kuning seat with 5,006-vote majority

Mohamad Yusri Bakir garners 11,065 votes, total turnout 58.07%

TAPAH – Barisan Nasional (BN) has officially retained its stronghold following the Ayer Kuning by-election today, with its candidate Mohamad Yusri Bakir winning the three-cornered fight with a 5,006-vote majority.

Also known as Ustaz Yusri, the Tapah Umno secretary received 11,065 votes. Meanwhile, Perikatan Nasional’s Abd Muhaimin Malek garnered 6,059 votes and Bawani KS of Parti Sosialis Malaysia obtained only 1,106 votes.

Voter turnout was recorded at 58.07%, and 289 ballots were rejected, returning officer Ahmad Redhauddin Ahmad Shokori said at the vote tallying centre at Dewan Merdeka here tonight.

BN has dominated the Ayer Kuning seat in Perak since 1986, making it 39 years so far. – April 26, 2025
