KUALA LUMPUR – The two contenders for the PKR deputy presidency in the upcoming party polls, Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli and Nurul Izzah Anwar, each bring undeniable strengths and contributions to the party.
Speaking to Scoop, newly appointed PKR Youth chief Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim said that while both candidates have their own strengths and weaknesses, these should not be used by any camp to attack those offering themselves for service.
“Some believe that Nurul Izzah’s strengths are well-suited for the party at this point in time, particularly in uniting members and preventing internal divisions.
“She has experience in supporting the party and leading election campaigns, among others.
“Others acknowledge that Rafizi, too, is experienced and has contributed significantly to the party.
“So if one believes Nurul Izzah’s strengths are what the party needs now, they should campaign based on that to move PKR forward.
“Likewise, if one believes Rafizi has what it takes, use that strength to rally support for him,” he said today.

Asked whether Rafizi’s open remarks during his nationwide tour might affect his support and chances of retaining the deputy presidency, Kamil said party members are capable of making their own assessments.
“I believe the grassroots understand how to evaluate the conduct and credibility of the current leadership.
“So let’s trust the wisdom of members to make the best choice (in this election) to ensure the party’s continuity and to further strengthen the organisation,” he added.
All eyes will be on Johor Bahru next week, where the central party leadership election is set to take place on May 23, with Rafizi defending his deputy president post against challenger Nurul Izzah.
Nurul Izzah is the current PKR vice-president, appointed to the position in 2022. – May 15, 2025
