A line crossed: Na’imah to challenge MACC’s freezing of UK assets

Toh Puan Na’imah says the MACC’s ex parte order was obtained without notice, calling it a vindictive and politically motivated breach of legal norms

KUALA LUMPUR — Toh Puan Na’imah Abdul Khalid, the wife of the late finance minister Tun Daim Zainuddin, said today that the MACC’s move to legally acquire her husband’s assets abroad was a shocking infringement of property rights, vindictive, and politically motivated.

She said this in response to the Kuala Lumpur High Court’s move to issue a freezing order on overseas properties that she claimed were lawfully owned.

Na’imah stated that she was never informed of the move and only found out through media reports.

“This is a shocking infringement of the most basic legal norms. It is unacceptable that it is happening in Malaysia.

“Seizure of property by the government without notice to the legal owner sets a dangerous precedent,” she said in a statement today.

Na’imah said the MACC obtained the ex parte order secretly, behind closed doors, and that she was never given the opportunity to be heard.

“I should have been allowed to have my say in court. No reasonable person would say that this was in accordance with the fairness of the rule of natural justice.”

Na’imah added that it came as no surprise to her that the MACC would resort to such blatant methods.

She said these tactics were part of a long and continuous smear campaign against Daim and his family since late 2022.

“The most shocking and disturbing aspect is that this is happening without any crime being proven against Daim. My lawyers will challenge and set aside the order immediately.” — June 4, 2025
