Nothing unusual in Anwar’s closed-door meeting with BN MPs: Zambry

The coalition sec-gen describes it as routine discussion on policies and current issues amid swirling speculation

KUALA LUMPUR – The closed-door meeting between Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Barisan Nasional (BN) MPs on Friday night centred solely on government policies and current issues, said BN secretary-general Datuk Seri Zambry Abdul Kadir.

He said such engagements are part of regular discussions held with all parties under the Unity Government.

“This is a routine meeting that is often held with component parties in the Unity Government and takes place periodically.

“No specific issue was discussed. It was more on policy and current affairs,” he said, as quoted by Berita Harian.

Zambry was speaking at a press conference after officiating the Umno Jeli delegates meeting in Kelantan earlier today.

The meeting between Anwar and BN lawmakers took place at the prime minister’s official residence, Seri Perdana, around 8pm last night.

It sparked speculation that discussions may have revolved around potential cooperation between Pakatan Harapan (PH) and BN in the upcoming Sabah state election.

Zambry, however, did not elaborate on the contents of the meeting.

Media personnel, who had gathered at Seri Perdana as early as 7pm, were unable to obtain any comments from BN MPs following the more-than-an-hour-long meeting, which ended around 9.20pm.

Following last night’s gathering, Anwar is expected to meet Pakatan Harapan MPs this coming Monday at 4.30pm. – July 12, 2025.
