KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysians will be able to travel to China without a visa for short-term visits of up to 90 days within a 180-day window, starting tomorrow.
According to a statement from the Chinese Embassy in Malaysia, the visa-free arrangement stems from the China-Malaysia Agreement on Mutual Visa Exemption.
Under the agreement, citizens of both countries holding ordinary passports may enter, exit or transit through the other’s territory without a visa and stay for up to 30 days per visit.
“This exemption covers a range of purposes, including tourism, family visits, business, cultural exchanges, private matters, medical treatment, and travel as crew members,” the statement read.
However, the total duration of stay must not exceed 90 days within any rolling 180-day period.
The embassy clarified that individuals planning to remain for more than 30 consecutive days, or those intending to work, study, conduct media activities or engage in any activity requiring prior approval, must obtain the relevant visa before travelling.
The mutual visa exemption was formalised during Chinese President Xi Jinping’s state visit to Malaysia in April.
For further information, travellers may contact the Chinese Visa Application Service Centre in Kuala Lumpur or the Chinese consulates in Kuching and Kota Kinabalu. — July 16, 2025
