KUALA LUMPUR – Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor has called for a meeting with state government lawmakers, which is scheduled for this afternoon at Menara Kinabalu, Sabah.
The meeting, set for 2 pm, comes amid widespread speculation about the dissolution of the state assembly.
The details surrounding the meeting have not been disclosed to the media. However, it was confirmed by the Sabah Chief Minister’s Department, which issued a media invitation today.
“The meeting will be held in the Bankuasi Hall, Level 3, Menara Kinabalu,” the media invitation stated, according to Bernama.
Speculation about the assembly’s dissolution grew following a meeting earlier today between Hajiji and the Yang Dipertua Negeri Sabah, Tun Musa Aman. Sources suggest that the discussion focused on dissolving the 16th Sabah State Assembly to pave the way for the 17th Sabah State Election (PRN).
The current assembly is set to automatically dissolve on November 11 unless an earlier dissolution occurs.
Yesterday, a spokesperson for the Chief Minister’s Media and Communication Office revealed that a media invitation for the official announcement would be issued at a later, more appropriate time.
On Thursday, Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR) and Parti Maju Sabah (SAPP) announced their decision to leave the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) coalition and contest the upcoming PRN17 independently. This decision was made during a meeting of the GRS Presidential Council, chaired by Hajiji at Sri Gaya.
However, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi dismissed the withdrawal by STAR and SAPP as an old political tactic ahead of the election.
The upcoming PRN will see around 662,000 new voters, bringing the total number of eligible voters to 1.786 million, according to the Election Commission’s electoral roll, which was gazetted on September 24, 2025.
