KUALA LUMPUR – Grab Malaysia has announced new partnerships with government agency Giatmara and automotive leaders BYD Sime Motors and Carsome to boost training, sustainability and long-term earning opportunities for its driver and delivery community.

The collaborations, unveiled this week, combine technical and vocational education, vehicle upgrade incentives and access to electric vehicles (EVs) to help drivers build resilience and transition to higher-value services.

“Our collaboration with Giatmara through GrabAcademy empowers our driver- and delivery-partners with upskilling and reskilling courses so they can thrive within and beyond Grab.

“It also supports the government’s ongoing efforts to uplift this segment,” said Rashid Shukor, Grab Malaysia’s director of country operations and mobility.

GrabAcademy, launched in 2017 as part of GrabBenefits, has delivered financial literacy, customer service and small-business courses in partnership with institutions such as Carsome Academy and Saito University College.

Its financial micro-credential courses have been among the most impactful, according to the company.

The new tie-up with Giatmara expands access to Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), offering practical modules in vehicle care, logistics, electrical vehicle basics and digital services.

Lessons are delivered through a mix of online modules and hands-on training at Giatmara centres.

Grab’s partnership with BYD Sime Motors, launched in June, introduced 10 all-electric BYD M6 MPVs at Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

Under the latest scheme, eligible drivers can access rebates of up to RM25,000 on EV purchases, alongside a 2% special parts rebate on any cash-paid vehicle services, making entry into premium ride categories more affordable.

The ride-hailing firm is also extending its collaboration with Carsome to provide driver-partners discounts of up to RM3,000 on trade-ins or new vehicle purchases. Grab will additionally provide one-off fuel vouchers of up to RM1,000 for eligible drivers, subject to service type and trip fulfilment.

The nationwide programmes, running from October 7 to December 31 this year, are open to both new and existing driver-partners.

The combined initiatives reflect Grab’s long-term commitment to strengthening opportunities for its drivers. — October 8, 2025
