KUALA LUMPUR – Sacked Bersatu Supreme Council member Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan has hit out at party secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali over a new circular that bars members from associating with those facing disciplinary action, calling it a “desperate attempt” to assert control amid waning influence.
In a strongly worded statement today, Wan Saiful claimed the circular — dated October 25 — was never approved by the supreme council, suggesting Azmin had introduced new procedures allowing directives to bypass the usual party mechanisms.
“Perhaps Azmin has introduced a new rule where circulars no longer need to be brought before the supreme council. It’s fine — they have the power,” he said, adding that the move reflected a “last-ditch effort” to cling to authority rather than genuine leadership.
The circular reportedly warns that any party member who collaborates with or supports individuals disciplined by Bersatu’s disciplinary board would be in violation of the party constitution and code of conduct.
But Wan Saiful argued that such restrictions are unprecedented and inconsistent with past practice.
“Never in Bersatu’s history have members been barred from meeting those under disciplinary review,” he said. “The decisions have yet to be finalised by the Appeals Board.”
He accused Azmin of hypocrisy, pointing out that Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin himself once met with Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir — both of whom had been expelled from the party following disciplinary action in 2020.
“If it’s true that members can’t meet those facing disciplinary action, why didn’t Azmin tell Muhyiddin when he met Mahathir and Mukhriz? Are the party’s rules now not applicable to the president and his inner circle?” Wan Saiful asked.
The statement comes just days after Wan Saiful appeared on the PodaBoom’s Trick Lama podcast alongside suspended Bersatu MP Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal, where both openly discussed rifts within the party and tensions between Bersatu and its Perikatan Nasional ally, PAS. – October 25, 2025
