Johor cops probe potential link between Roblox and attack on 6-year-old boy

Investigations focus on whether the older brother’s anger over a disrupted game led to the violent assault on his younger sibling

KUALA LUMPUR – Police have not ruled out the possibility that a six-year-old boy, severely injured after being slashed and stabbed in Kampung Parit Nipah Laut, Batu Pahat, Johor, was attacked by his nine-year-old brother, possibly under the influence of the online game Roblox.

According to Bernama, Johor police chief Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad stated that preliminary investigations suggest the older brother may have acted out of anger following a disruption to his Roblox game, which caused him to lose around one million accumulated points after the victim allegedly damaged his mobile phone.

“The motive remains under investigation, but our initial findings indicate the elder brother may have attacked his younger sibling due to the Roblox game, in which his points were lost after his phone was damaged,” he said.

He also noted that the older boy appeared to have experienced hallucinations, possibly as a result of the game, and seemed to have been “instructed” to harm his family members. This led to the attack on his younger brother with a knife found in the house.

Ab Rahaman confirmed that investigations are continuing, including obtaining a statement from the victim, who is receiving treatment at Sultanah Nora Ismail Hospital (HSNI) in Batu Pahat.

The parents of the two children, both aged 40, have been remanded for questioning until tomorrow, as they are being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code and Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001.

“The two children are now under the care of the Social Welfare Department (JKM),” he said. “However, we have detained the parents, as we believe they may have been aware of the incident, although the investigation is still in its early stages.”

Ab Rahaman added that the investigation papers would be referred to the State Legal Adviser’s Office to determine the next steps.

Earlier, Batu Pahat police chief ACP Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani revealed that investigations began after the victim’s 41-year-old mother reported the incident to the police.

She had woken up to find her son seriously injured in the neck and rushed him to HSNI for treatment. – October 29, 2025
