KUALA LUMPUR — The government is studying plans to integrate school closed-circuit television (CCTV) systems with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) monitoring network in an effort to strengthen safety and enable real-time surveillance, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said today.

Speaking during the Dewan Rakyat debate on the 2026 Supply Bill, Saifuddin said the proposal would allow schools’ security footage to be monitored directly by police, improving the response to incidents on school grounds.

He noted that the Education Ministry has allocated RM8 million for the installation of CCTV systems in schools, which could be linked to PDRM’s monitoring infrastructure, depending on the compatibility of hardware and networking capabilities.

“I will ask the Home Ministry to explore the possibility of implementing this integration so that real-time monitoring can be carried out effectively,” he said.

At the same time, the minister said police have been instructed to step up their presence around schools through increased patrols and “omnipresence” surveillance.

Saifuddin also disclosed that 687 bullying cases were reported in schools between 2022 and June 2025, with 105 cases recorded in the first half of this year alone.

Following amendments to the Penal Code introducing Sections 507B to 507G, police have opened investigation papers on 87 bullying cases between August and September.

Meanwhile, schools have also seen 112 rape cases and two murders reported between 2022 and 2025 — involving students from Lahad Datu Vocational College and SMK Bandar Utama, respectively. — October 30, 2025
