KUALA LUMPUR – GXBank has announced its second cohort of scholarship recipients, 10 bright young Malaysians from underserved communities who will be studying at numerous top universities around Malaysia.
GXBank Deputy chief executive and chief operating officer Hildah Hamzah reaffirmed the Bank’s commitment to nurturing local talents and empowering future generations via its Impian Gigih Biasiswa initiative.
“Education has the power to change lives. It opens doors to help families break the cycle and achieve intergenerational social mobility. At GXBank, we see talent everywhere, but not everyone has the same access to education or support,” Hildah said in a press release.
“Impian Gigih Biasiswa directly supports these promising Malaysians, giving them the resources and confidence to pursue their dreams. I am proud that we can make a real difference in these students’ lives and their families.”
The announcement of the scholarship recipients took place during an intimate ceremony at 1 First Avenue in Bandar Utama on October 25.
Also present at the event were GXbank chairperson, Datuk Zaiton Mohd Hassan and chief executive, Kaushik Chowdhury as well as other members of the management team.
Among other criteria, the Impian Gigih Biasiswa is GXBank’s scholarship programme for students entering any Malaysia Public University from monthly gross household income of RM8,000 and below.
The programme includes full tuition fees for the entire duration of the undergraduate study, matriculation support, living allowance, and an internship with GXBank, as well as opportunities for overseas immersion programmes.
The 2025 scholars are of diverse backgrounds and states, each with a compelling story of ambition and resilience.
Among the new recipients is Mah Sengzi, a 19-year-old law student from Penang.
Raised by a retired parent and an administrative manager, Mah’s journey to Universiti Malaya’s law faculty is a testament to quiet determination and a drive to serve justice.
Deevina Lee, 19, hails from Sabah and is enrolled in Universiti Utara Malaysia, studying human resource management. Coming from a farming household, Deevina’s academic pursuit marks a leap into leadership and advocacy for rural talent.
“I’ve always believed that understanding people is the first step to making a difference. Growing up with nine siblings with many challenges, I’ve learnt that education is my way to create change, not just for myself but for those I love. With this scholarship, I want to use what I’ll learn to build a career where I can help others reach their potential while also uplifting my own family.”
From Selangor, Santhrani Raguram is studying mathematics education at Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris.
“This scholarship brings me closer to my dream of becoming an educator, just like my late father who inspired me to believe in the power of education. It lifts a huge weight off my family’s shoulders and reminds me why I want to teach – to change lives the way my father changed his students and to give back to students who need the same encouragement he once gave me”
The daughter of a teacher and a housewife, her choice to become an educator continues a legacy of service and learning.
Nur Amira Adani Azizol, also 19, is pursuing a degree in finance at Universiti Malaya.
“I am really happy and grateful to receive this scholarship. Coming from a small family business, I’ve seen how financial knowledge can truly change lives,” she said.
“This scholarship means I can pursue my dream of becoming a Financial Analyst and, one day, help more Malaysians, especially those from B40 communities to make better financial decisions which leads to a stronger financial future for themselves.”
With a Grab driver and an online entrepreneur as parents, Amira’s academic path reflects the aspirations of Malaysia’s gig economy generation, bold, resourceful, and future-focused.
With each new batch, GXBank is building a pipeline of changemakers who will not only succeed academically but also uplift their communities.
