KUALA LUMPUR – Local pop group Dolla had a meeting with the Communications Minister, Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, at the Malaysian Parliament building earlier today after courting controversy last week.
The group, which includes Sabronzo, Tabby, and Angel, took to Instagram to share a memorable photo with the Minister, accompanied by a short video clip from the meeting. In the caption, Dolla wrote, “An exciting future ahead! Thank you, YB Fahmi Fadzil and team,” expressing their gratitude.
During the same post, the trio presented a special gift, emblazoned with the name ‘Dolla,’ to Fahmi as a token of appreciation.
Universal Music Malaysia, the record label representing Dolla, also expressed their thanks to Fahmi and the ministry for taking the time to meet with the group.
“It’s a great honour to sit down with the Minister of Communications this afternoon. Thank you for the discussion and for hearing our vision. Exciting things are on the horizon for the industry, and we can’t wait to be part of it!” the label posted on their Instagram.
The meeting was also attended by Kim Lim, Managing Director of Universal Music Malaysia. However, details regarding the specific purpose of the meeting and the discussions held remain undisclosed.
The group has also faced fresh controversy over their latest release. Dolla’s music video for Question, unveiled earlier this month, was pulled from all platforms following criticism from religious groups and cultural commentators.
Religious Affairs Minister Datuk Na’im Mokhtar confirmed the video would be reviewed by Islamic authorities, prompting Universal Music Malaysia to withdraw it. In a statement, the label said the decision was made out of respect for “cultural values, religious sensitivities and the views of our fans,” adding that artistic freedom must be balanced with awareness of local norms.
The retro‑styled video had sparked backlash over the group’s styling, with detractors labelling it “immoral” and inappropriate for Malaysia’s entertainment industry.
Meanwhile, Dolla had to announce the cancellation of their much-anticipated Good Girls Gone Bad concert yesterday, after the organisers failed to secure the necessary permits and approvals within the required time frame. The news was shared by the group through a heartfelt video posted on their official Instagram account.
“We understand many of you were eagerly looking forward to this concert, as were we. Please know that we are just as disappointed,” said Sabronzo in the video. The group explained that the decision to cancel was made after organisers informed them that all permits and approvals could not be finalised in time. Without these, the concert could not proceed.
“We simply couldn’t risk having the concert cancelled at the last minute, just two or three days before the event,” said Dolla. “We’ve worked incredibly hard with our amazing team, from visuals to choreography and music production, to deliver a top-tier performance for you.”
Despite the setback, the group expressed their deep appreciation for the production crew, who had been working tirelessly for months to prepare the concert.
Dolla also assured their fans, known as iDOLLA, that a special event would be held on December 6 to give fans the opportunity to meet the group. The group also hinted at plans for a full concert next year. “We miss you all so much. Stay tuned for our full concert next year!” said Tabby.
For those who purchased tickets, Dolla confirmed that the organisers would ensure a smooth and prompt refund process, without putting any pressure on the fans.
“We truly appreciate your love, patience, and continued support. We know you’ve been waiting to see us perform live, and we will keep working hard to bring you the best show possible in the near future,” the group said.
Closing their announcement, Dolla assured their fans that this cancellation was not the end of their journey. “This is not the end, but rather the beginning of a new era. We promise to return with an unforgettable performance worth the wait. We love you, iDOLLA. Thank you,” Angel added.
