KUALA LUMPUR – Bukit Aman’s Special Investigation Unit (USJT) has taken over the probe into a viral video on social media that contains allegations against the Chief Commissioner of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), Tan Sri Azam Baki.
Kuala Lumpur Police Chief, Datuk Fadil Marsus, confirmed that the investigation is being carried out under Section 500 of the Penal Code for defamation and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
“The investigation has been taken over by USJT, and we will assist in ensuring that a comprehensive investigation is conducted,” he said during a press conference following the launch of the “Unity for Safety” series of the ‘Crossing Challenges, Driving Well-Being’ programme today.
Last Thursday, a MACC officer lodged a police report at the Putrajaya District Police Headquarters regarding a video conversation between a woman and businessman Albert Tei, which contained defamatory remarks about Azam.
The report claims that the video content was maliciously intended to tarnish the reputation of the MACC Chief Commissioner, while asserting that MACC investigations have been conducted transparently, free from any external influence.
Meanwhile, Fadil also confirmed that the investigation papers for a Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) from MACC, who was arrested for drug abuse in September, have been forwarded to the Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC).
“We have completed the investigation after receiving the pathology report from the Chemistry Department, and the case is now with the AGC for further instructions,” he added.
Previously, it was reported that the officer, aged in his 30s, was arrested by the police on September 23 and was investigated under Section 12(1) and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 after a urine test confirmed he had tested positive for drugs. – December 3, 2025
