KUALA LUMPUR – For 18 families whose lives were upended by the gas pipeline fire in Jalan Putra Harmoni, Putra Heights, Subang Jaya, on April 1, today marks a moment of relief and new beginnings.

Their homes in Kampung Kuala Sungai Baru have been fully repaired and rebuilt, allowing them to return to safe, stable, and comfortable living spaces.

The key handover ceremony was officiated by Housing and Local Government Minister, Nga Kor Ming as part of the Ministry’s 2025 Program Sentuhan Kejayaan.

The reconstruction of the 18 housing units, costing RM4.85 million, was managed by the National Housing Corporation (SPNB).

Nga said the project underscores the government’s commitment to the welfare of its citizens.

“We understand the hardships these families have faced, and we are determined to ensure they can return to safe and secure homes as quickly as possible,” he said.

“This is a testament to the efficiency of our agencies and the compassion of the government in responding to crises.”

The rebuilding process began shortly after the incident, with a Special Media Conference held on April 30, 2025, followed by the official appointment of SPNB as the implementing agency on May 7.

Construction commenced on June 3 and was completed in record time, ensuring minimal disruption to the families’ lives.

One resident, who preferred anonymity said, “We lost our home and all our belongings in the fire. Today, we feel like we have a second chance at life. We are thankful to the government and SPNB for making this possible.”

Meanwhile, the successful reconstruction of these homes reflects the government’s broader commitment to housing development.

During the same ceremony, Nga highlighted the achievements of the People-Friendly Housing Program (RMR) and announced the launch of the MyRMR application, a digital platform designed to streamline housing applications and monitoring.

SPNB has surpassed its 2025 target by completing 74,957 RMR units nationwide, providing affordable and quality housing for low-income families.

The swift recovery of the Putra Heights fire victims, alongside the ongoing success of the RMR program, underscores the government’s dedication to ensuring every Malaysian family has access to safe, comfortable, and affordable housing. December 4, 2025
