KUALA LUMPUR – Police have sought assistance from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to identify the individual behind a social media account allegedly linked to death threats against a lawyer representing the families of three men shot dead in Melaka.
Petaling Jaya OCPD Assistant Commissioner Shamsudin Mamat told Scoop that investigators have requested the MCMC’s help to obtain information on the account holder.
“We are still awaiting a report from the MCMC. For now, we have only recorded the complainant’s statement,” he said when contacted.
ACP Shamsudin previously confirmed that the lawyer lodged a report on December 5 after reading a threatening comment posted by an unknown individual on social media while he was at his office.
The three men, aged between 24 and 29, were killed at about 4.30am on November 24 after one of them allegedly attacked a police corporal with a machete at an oil palm plantation in Durian Tunggal.
They were reportedly on their way to commit a robbery at the time.
On December 4, Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Commissioner Datuk M. Kumar said a special task force had been formed to examine the allegations raised by the victims’ family members, who questioned the police’s conduct during the incident.
It was reported that Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail has vowed there would be “no compromise” on misconduct during the investigation. The police also received a CD containing an audio recording allegedly made before and during the shooting.
The families have questioned the official narrative, suggesting the men were executed rather than shot in self-defence. They have called for a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) and appealed to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to intervene.
Prime Minister Anwar has instructed Khalid to submit a full report to Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail and stressed that no one, including police personnel, should be shielded from scrutiny.
“We do not protect criminals, nor do we protect any actions by police personnel that go against the rule of law,” he said.
Khalid urged the public to avoid speculation, warning that spreading unverified claims could compromise the investigation.
The case remains under close scrutiny as authorities investigate both the shooting and allegations of police misconduct, with the families and public awaiting a transparent resolution. – December 8, 2025
