KUALA LUMPUR — The Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) has stressed that its decision not to appeal Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor’s acquittal on 17 money‑laundering and tax‑evasion charges will not affect any of her other ongoing court cases.
In a statement, the AGC confirmed it received the High Court’s appeal records on Oct 30 following the ruling that freed the wife of former prime minister Najib Razak.
“After a full review of the judgment grounds, the AGC is satisfied that there is no reasonable prospect of success and has therefore decided not to proceed with an appeal to the Court of Appeal.
“One key factor was the prosecution’s inability to prove the case beyond reasonable doubt, as several crucial witnesses have either died or can no longer be traced,” it said.
The AGC added that all factual and legal issues were thoroughly examined before the decision was made.
However, it stressed that Rosmah’s corruption case involving the Sarawak rural schools solar hybrid project remains active and is now before the Court of Appeal. In 2022, the Kuala Lumpur High Court sentenced her to 10 years’ jail and a RM970 million fine after finding her guilty of three corruption charges linked to the RM1.25 billion project. The sentence is currently stayed pending appeal.
Yesterday, Rosmah’s lawyer Datuk Amer Hamzah Arshad confirmed receiving a notice from the prosecution informing them that the appeal had been withdrawn. The notice, signed by Deputy Public Prosecutor Datuk Sri Saiful Edris Zainuddin, stated that the prosecution no longer intended to pursue the matter.
The original appeal was filed on Dec 20, 2024 — a day after Justice K Muniandy ruled that the charges against Rosmah were defective and invalid for failing to comply with the Criminal Procedure Code.
Rosmah, 74, had been facing 12 money‑laundering charges involving RM7.09 million and five counts of failing to declare income to the Inland Revenue Board. The alleged offences took place between Dec 4, 2013 and June 8, 2017. She was charged on Oct 4, 2018.
Her trial began on Aug 24, 2023, with two prosecution witnesses testifying before proceedings were halted two weeks later when she filed an application to strike out the case. – December 12, 2025
