KUALA LUMPUR — The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has launched an investigation following complaints from the public over online content published by China Press.

The content allegedly contains false elements relating to the Royal Address of His Majesty Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim during the Opening of the Parliamentary Session yesterday.

In a statement today, MCMC said that it will investigate the matter under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which addresses the misuse of network facilities or communications services that could cause public confusion and affect social harmony.

At the same time, China Press was summoned to the MCMC headquarters this afternoon to record statements as part of the probe.

“We urged the public to submit complaints or information regarding online content through our official complaints portal at aduan.mcmc.gov.my, so that appropriate actions can be taken based on verified facts and due legal process,” the statement read.

The commission also cautioned against speculation, extreme comments, or defamatory statements, particularly on social media, and asked the public to allow the investigation to proceed without interference. – January 20, 2026
