KUALA LUMPUR – Three wanted criminals, identified as the main suspects in Ops Jack Sparrow, who were detained in Mumbai, India last Sunday, arrived at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) today.
Under tight security by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), the trio were escorted to the Sepang District Police Headquarters (IPD) for documentation at 8.33 a.m. They will later be brought before the Sepang Magistrate’s Court for remand proceedings.
Earlier, several police vehicles transported the three Malaysian men—believed to be members of the “Captain Praba gang”—directly from Mumbai to IPD Sepang under heavy guard.
Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Director, Datuk M Kumar, confirmed that an official media statement will be issued soon.
The suspects, all in their 30s, were arrested by security forces at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) last Sunday after acting violently upon arrival in Mumbai. Their aggression followed deportation from the United Kingdom, where immigration officers at Manchester Airport—already alerted to their “high-profile criminal” status—denied them entry.
As international protocol requires deportees to be returned to their last point of departure, the men were sent back to Mumbai. Realising they were trapped upon landing, they resisted arrest violently but were subdued by Indian authorities.
The trio are regarded as key figures in Ops Jack Sparrow, a major crackdown launched by PDRM in September last year. That operation saw 17 gang members detained across Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Penang, and Perak.
Inspector-General of Police, Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail, said the arrests were part of a coordinated CID operation on 11 September. The gang, believed active since 2023, comprises 33 members led by an individual known as “Captain Praba.”
The suspects, aged between 19 and 44, are linked to violent crimes including murder, armed assaults, group robberies, and arson. Initial investigations revealed the crackdown followed a brutal attack in Taman Sentosa, Klang, early last year, where a man was assaulted by a group armed with firearms and machetes.
The gang has also been connected to the murder of a man at a restaurant in Brickfields mid-last year, along with several other organised crime cases. – January 28, 2026
