KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim seized the opportunity of the long public holiday for Federal Territory Day and Thaipusam to conduct a surprise inspection of Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad’s (KTMB) Electric Train Service 3 (ETS3) from Kuala Lumpur to Johor Bahru.
Anwar took to Facebook to explain that he utilised the break to interact with passengers on the ETS3, directly gathering feedback on their experiences.
“Alhamdulillah, the response has been very encouraging, especially regarding comfort levels and the more organised, smoother travel experience,” he posted.
He reaffirmed the Madani government’s commitment to improving public services to be safer, more efficient, and user-friendly.
Later in the day, Anwar, accompanied by his children and grandchildren, arrived at Zoo Johor at 3.10pm.
During the visit, he spent over an hour at the historic zoo, which is the oldest in Malaysia, engaging with visitors and even posing for photos.
Johor Housing and Local Government Committee Chairman, Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor, who was present during the visit, expressed his gratitude to the Prime Minister for making the trip, local media reported.
“We were only informed yesterday, and we weren’t sure if he would make it. Alhamdulillah, he came,” Jafni was quoted as saying, adding that the visit was unscheduled.
Anwar’s visit included a review of Zoo Johor’s recent improvements.
The zoo, which reopened to the public following renovations, has seen over 1.2 million visitors in the past 14 months. In 2025, the zoo achieved a revenue of RM5.5 million, a significant turnaround from previous years when it operated at a loss.
“Alhamdulillah, he said the zoo looks good now. It used to be a bit dirty before the improvements,” Jafni said. – February 1, 2026
