KUALA LUMPUR – Opposition leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin has been sacked from Bersatu with immediate effect.
Bersatu Disciplinary Board chairman Datuk Mohd Radzi Manan said in a notice issued today that the decision was made during a board meeting yesterday.
He explained that the board had resolved to terminate Hamzah’s membership rights under Clause 22.5 of the party constitution, effective from the date of the notice.
“(The dismissal is) due to Datuk Seri Hamzah’s actions in violation of Clause 9.1.4 of the Bersatu Constitution,” he added.
Mohd Radzi also noted that Hamzah may submit an appeal to the party’s Appeal Board for consideration, 14 days from the date of the notice.
Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali confirmed that the party’s top leadership had been informed of the expulsion.
“The Supreme Leadership Council has been informed that the Disciplinary Board has decided to expel Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin from the party and strip him of his membership rights under Clause 22.5, effective today.
“This is due to actions in breach of Clause 9.1.4 of the Bersatu Constitution,” he said in a statement.
Earlier today, reports emerged that Bersatu division leaders were planning a gathering to show support for Hamzah while calling for the resignation of party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
The event, scheduled for Saturday, is said to involve 120 of the party’s 202 division leaders nationwide.
This follows Hamzah’s return from Australia after he failed to attend a party disciplinary hearing yesterday. He is accused of sabotaging the party and attempting to remove Muhyiddin during the last general assembly.
A party source added that Hamzah is expected to hold a press conference on Sunday. – February 13, 2026
