KUALA LUMPUR — Bersatu vice-presidents Datuk Dr Mohd Radzi Md Jidin and Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu are to carry out the duties of deputy president, following the sacking of Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin and several other party members.
The Bersatu Supreme Leadership Council decided these appointments at a special meeting today, said party president Tan Sri Datuk Muhyiddin Yassin .
“The meeting discussed steps to strengthen Bersatu following disciplinary action taken against several party members,” he said, adding that the appointments were made with unanimous agreement from the council.
Muhyiddin, who chaired the meeting today, said the disciplinary action to sack Hamzah and 16 other party members who included MPs and division chiefs was not done arbitrarily, as top leaders were involved.
“Before disciplinary action was taken, efforts were made to find common ground through meetings and discussions, but these efforts did not succeed,” he said, adding that certain parties had continued acts of sabotage aimed at dividing the party and undermining its struggle.
Muhyiddin said he been “patient” in dealing with internal sabotage and pressures, even accommodating individuals he knew opposed him, for the sake of unity.
He said disciplinary action had to be taken to revive and save Bersatu, and today’s leadership meeting pledged to rebuild the party and unite members to contest the 16th general election.
Yesterday, 17 Bersatu members had their party memberships terminated by the Disciplinary Board, including four MPs and two state assemblymen.
Besides Hamzah who is Larut MP, other expelled parliamentarians are Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal (Machang), Fathul Huzir Ayob (Gerik), and Captain Azahari Hasan (Padang Rengas).
The two state assemblymen removed from the party are Datuk Zainol Fadzi Paharudin (Sungai Manik, Perak) and Dr Mohd Yadzil Yaakub (Bemban, Melaka), who also serves as the Melaka opposition leader. – February 14, 2026
