KUALA LUMPUR – Tasek Gelugor MP Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan has withdrawn his appeal against his dismissal from Bersatu, saying the party no longer has a future under its current leadership.
Wan Saiful said he had written to the party’s appeals board chairman to confirm his decision, adding that “Bersatu no longer has a future under (party president Tan Sri) Muhyiddin Yassin.”
He claimed one of the accusations against him was that he had been involved in setting up an executive committee, and by extension, a presidential council, within Perikatan Nasional.
“Muhyiddin is doing the same thing today. This is what he wrote in his letter to the party presidents in PN. This is the hypocrisy of Muhyiddin and his sycophants,” he said.
Wan Saiful was sacked from Bersatu last October and filed an appeal earlier this month.
Muhyiddin, after stepping down as PN chairman, had proposed forming a presidential council within the coalition, seen as reducing the chairman’s powers. The move reportedly had backing from the Malaysian Indian People’s Party and Malaysian People’s Movement Party, but was opposed by PAS.
PAS secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan warned the plan could breach the coalition’s constitution and risk action from the Registrar of Societies.
The recent Bersatu purge saw 17 leaders and members removed, including deputy president Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, Supreme Council member and Machang MP Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal, and party council member Datuk Zainol Fadzi Paharudin, among others.
Meanwhile, Indera Mahkota MP Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah has also withdrawn his appeal against his sacking from Bersatu.
“With the withdrawal, I request that the Appeals Board take note and cease all proceedings or further consideration related to my appeal,” Saifuddin said, as reported by Sinar Harian.
Saifuddin, however, did not explain the reason for his decision.
The former Bersatu Supreme Council member was sacked on January 6 following a decision by Bersatu’s Supreme Leadership Council, for breaching Clause 9.1.4 of the party constitution. No specific offence was detailed. – February 16, 2026
