KUALA LUMPUR – Political leaders across Malaysia, from both sides of the political divide, have voiced strong condemnation of the US and Israel’s recent military strike on Iran, which has exacerbated instability and led to further bloodshed in the region.
The strike, which reportedly killed Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has sparked outrage among several political parties and leaders in Malaysia.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said Malaysia stands in solidarity with all Muslims and communities in the Middle East who have been affected by the tensions caused by the actions of the United States (US) and Israel in launching attacks on Iran on Saturday.
He said Malaysia prays for the well-being of Muslims and all communities affected in the Middle East and expressed hope that peace, justice and stability can soon be restored in the Middle East.
PAS President, Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang, was also among the first to condemn the attack, calling it a severe violation of international norms and an affront to Iran’s sovereignty.
“PAS extends its condolences to the family of Ali Khamenei over this tragedy. May Allah bestow His mercy upon them and grant them the reward of martyrdom in His sight,” he said in a statement.
Hadi also criticised the targeting of strategic locations, including areas associated with Iran’s highest leadership, stating that such actions were clear breaches of universal justice and sovereignty.
Similarly, Bersatu President Tan Sri Datuk Muhyiddin Yassin voiced his disapproval in a statement on his Facebook page. He expressed concern over the breach of international law and called for an immediate cessation of hostilities. “I call for an immediate cease to all fighting.
Both the United States and Iran must choose to continue diplomacy and dialogue,” he said, emphasising the safety of Malaysians in the affected areas.
“The Malaysian government, together with regional and international partners, must continue to pursue ways to reduce tensions, promote peace, and protect civilians caught in this conflict,” he added.
The Central Executive Committee (CEC) of DAP also condemned the attack, urging an immediate ceasefire and a return to diplomatic negotiations.
The party described the assault as an attack on democracy itself, stressing that it represented a clear violation of international laws.
“There is far too much suffering, violence, bloodshed, massacres, and crimes against humanity taking place across the world. We stand firmly with freedom fighters who defend justice, democracy, liberty, and peace,” the statement read.
Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin joined the chorus of disapproval, warning that the killing of Iran’s top leader and the deaths of many civilians could escalate tensions in West Asia and pose risks to global security.
“Together with Opposition Members of Parliament, I extend my condolences to the entire people of Iran who have lost their supreme leader and head of state in the Israeli and US attack. Iran, as a sovereign nation, has the full right to defend its sovereignty and the safety of its people as enshrined under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter,” he stated.
PKR’s International Affairs Bureau chairman Maszlee Malik condemned the military aggression and reiterated its solidarity with the people of Iran. The bureau called for three key actions: an immediate cessation of all hostilities, full respect for Iran’s sovereignty, and decisive action by the UN Security Council to halt the aggression.
“We call upon the United States and Israel to cease hostilities and choose the path of diplomacy and peaceful coexistence,” the statement concluded. – March 1, 2026
