KUALA LUMPUR – Fahmi Zainol’s tenure as an Exco member of the Penang state government has officially come to an end today, confirmed Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.

Fahmi, who previously held the portfolio for Agrotechnology, Food Security, and Cooperative Development, was informed of the decision during a meeting with Chow earlier this morning. The Pantai Jerejak State Assemblyman accepted the termination of his position.

Chow further said that he would submit a proposal for a replacement to the Governor of Penang later today.

“Following that, my office will announce the name of the individual who will assume this role and succeed Fahmi,” he said.

On Sunday, PKR Secretary-General Fuziah Salleh revealed that Fahmi had been suspended from all party positions following allegations of intentionally causing harm to his wife. This suspension will remain in effect until the case is resolved.

“Fahmi Zainol has been immediately suspended from all party posts,” Fuziah said.

“Regarding his position in the Penang State Executive Council, I will send a letter to the Chief Minister (Chow Kon Yeow) soon,” she added.

Meanwhile, Chow confirmed that his office received a letter from Fuziah on Tuesday, requesting that Fahmi be dismissed from his Exco position. – March 4, 2026
